The Kilgore Curse is Larry Pivnick’s first published novel, but he’s been writing all his life. In medical school (MD, Toronto, 1971), he wrote scientific papers and short stories for amusement. During law school (JD, SMU, 1993), he wrote court briefs and tinkered with novels. Then he graduated from SMU’s Creative Writing Program in 2007. The Kilgore Curse is the culmination of his multifaceted education, extensive experience, peripatetic travel, and unfettered imagination.

Born and raised in Toronto, Dr. Pivnick has practiced family medicine in Dallas for the past thirty-six years and law for twenty. He has recently retired in order to write fiction full time. He lives in Dallas with Linda, his devoted wife of forty-three years. Together they have two grown children and four extraordinary grandchildren. They love to travel and play golf, though, to his eternal bemusement, she is the better golfer.

Jim Lauderdale is a Grammy® Award winning musician and one of the most respected artists working in the Bluegrass, Country and Americana music communities today. He is considered one of Nashville’s “A” list of songwriters with songs recorded by artists such as Patty Loveless, Shelby Lynne, Solomon Burke, The Dixie Chicks and George Strait, who has had numerous hits with Jim’s songs. Jim’s music has been featured recently on the ABC hit show “Nashville” and he had several tracks on the soundtrack of the successful film “Pure Country.” Jim is also in high demand as a player, touring with the likes of Lucinda Williams, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Rhonda Vincent and Elvis Costello.

Jim, who frequently collaborates with legends like Ralph Stanley and Elvis Costello, is also a critically acclaimed solo artist with dozens of studio releases, including his latest Carolina Moonrise, written with Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter and Buddy and Jim the critically acclaimed new duets album recorded with long time friend Buddy Miller of which Mojo states: “Miller and Lauderdale’s duets have both the easy familiarity of old friends and the musicianship of old pros.”

In addition to making music together, Buddy and Jim also co-host “The Buddy & Jim Show,” recently described as “…highly entertaining…” by NPR’s Fresh Air. Each week Buddy and Jim invite artists to Buddy’s home studio in Nashville, where they tape performances and in depth interviews with a wide variety of artists and friends. Jim also hosts the popular Music City Roots each week from the Loveless Barn in Nashville. And since winning “Artist of the Year” and “Song of the Year” at the first “Honors and Awards Show” held by the Americana Music Association in 2002, he has subsequently hosted the show each year.

Jim is the subject of a new documentary, directed by Australian filmmaker Jeremy Dylan called “The King Of Broken Hearts.” The feature length documentary tells of Jim’s unconventional and prolific story from his North Carolina roots, being immersed in the country music scenes in both New York City and Los Angeles, to breaking through in Nashville as a songwriter.

Jim’s musical influences, including the legendary Dr. Ralph Stanley and George Jones, can be heard in his songs with his unique sense of melody and lyrical expertise. He won his first Grammy Award in 2002 with Dr. Ralph Stanley for Lost in the Lonesome Pines (Dualtone) and then for The Bluegrass Diaries (Yep Roc) in 2007. George Nigh

George Patterson Nigh (born June 9, 1927), is a politician and civic leader in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. Nigh served as the 17th and the 22nd Governor of Oklahoma. He was the first Oklahoma governor to be re-elected and the first to win all 77 counties in the state. Additionally, short term vacancies in the governor’s office twice resulted in Nigh assuming gubernatorial duties while serving as lieutenant governor.

Nigh served on the board of directors of JC Penney and as President of the University of Central Oklahoma after leaving the office of governor. Currently he is a director and public relations advisor for International Bank of Commerce. Prior to holding statewide offices, he worked as a teacher and legislator.

Kristen & Jessica Bardwil

Just before Valentines Day 2008, Kristen and Jessica Bardwil lost their mother, Pamela Bardwil, to pancreatic cancer at the young age of 54. The following Valentine’s Day, the sisters with help of their Aunt Lori and other close family and friends founded P.A.M.’s Run for Pancreatic Cancer Research to celebrate the legacy and spirit of Pam, who was an avid runner and active member of the Westlake Village community.

Having learned about the significant research being conducted through the Lustgarten Foundation, P.A.M.’s Run joined forces with the organization to host an event that would impact the pancreatic cancer community as a whole. What started as a personal and intimate undertaking by Kristen and Jessica to honor their mother morphed into a full blown race, complete with over a dozen corporate sponsors, live bands, a large Expo area with vendors, and a 1K race for kids to encourage family participation, to date the Walk/Run has raised more than $525,000 in what promises to be a day to celebrate love, life and family and raise awareness and funds to help fight pancreatic cancer.

On February 7, 2009, Donna’s life as she knew it was turned upside down. As a result of a traumatic brain injury, all the physical activities she once treasured became impossible. Enjoying time with her children was put on hold. Starting a new relationship with someone special was cut short. Recently, after years of recovery and rebuilding her life, she wrote Headstrong: Surviving a Traumatic Brain Injury without Losing My Mind as part of a new beginning. Donna lives in Dallas, Texas.

Oklahoma elected Todd Lamb as Lt. Governor on November 2, 2010.  With a campaign focused on job growth and economic development, Lt. Governor Lamb achieved an overwhelming victory and quickly began putting his forward-thinking ideas and agenda in place.  He was appointed to the Governor’s cabinet as the advocate for Oklahoma’s small business.

An Enid native, Lamb played football at Louisiana Tech University, then returned to Oklahoma earning his bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University and his law degree from Oklahoma City University School of Law.

In 1993, Todd Lamb worked on the campaign staff of gubernatorial candidate Frank Keating. Upon Keating’s election, Lamb worked alongside the Governor for four years.  During his time in the Governor’s office, Lamb traveled to all of Oklahoma’s 77 counties, almost half of the United States, and 2 foreign countries promoting Governor Keating’s pro-growth economic agenda.  Lamb served in the Keating Administration from 1994 until 1998.

In 1998, Todd Lamb became a Special Agent with the United States Secret Service. He was elected president of his Secret Service Academy class and graduated with special recognition.  During his U.S. Secret Service tenure, Lamb investigated and made numerous arrests in the areas of counterfeiting, bank fraud, threats against the President, and identity theft. His duties included domestic and international protection assignments during the Clinton and George W. Bush administrations.  In 2000, Lamb was a site supervisor for George W. Bush’s presidential campaign. In early 2001, he was appointed to the national Joint Terrorism Task Force, where he received training and briefings at the CIA, FBI, and Secret Service headquarters in Washington, D.C.  After the terrorists’ attacks, he was assigned to portions of the 9-11 investigation.

Lt. Governor Todd Lamb was elected to his first term in the Oklahoma Senate on November 2, 2004 by the voters of Senate district 47 representing NW Oklahoma City and Edmond.  Lamb was re-elected without opposition in 2008.

In 2009, Lamb became the first Republican Majority Floor Leader in state history. He has worked as a landman in Oklahoma’s energy industry, and in addition to his Senate service, was General Counsel for an energy and wireless company in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Lt. Governor Lamb currently serves as Chair of the National Lieutenant Governor’s Association (NLGA) Executive Committee and Vice Chair of the Aerospace States Association (ASA).

Todd Lamb and his wife Monica have been married 17 years and have two children, Griffin and Lauren. The Lambs are active members of Quail Springs Baptist Church, where Lamb serves as a church deacon. He has been a member of the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Athletic Association where he officiated high school football.  He is active in many other civic and political organizations. In his spare time, Lamb enjoys fishing, hunting, reading, and spending time with his family.
