Salvator LaMastra

Salvator J. La Mastra V
Author of 2012 for Twentysomethings: A Young Voter’s Guide to the 2012 Elections
Air Date, May 20th, 2012

La Mastra graduated in 2010 from Baylor University with a degree in biology, a minor in chemistry, and a concentration in latin. He followed a prehealth concentration, ultimately deciding to pursue a career in dentistry, and plans on beginning his first year of dental school in the fall of 2012. Salvator enjoys playing an active role in his community, primarily by assisting in health care–related organizations, and was awarded Mission Waco’s Volunteer of the Year for 2010 for his dedication in serving others. His interest in politics escalated during the 2010 midterm elections. Salvator developed a passion for seeking out nonpartisan, unbiased information to help inform his peers after realizing that no relevant source of this type of information existed for young voters.

This discovery eventually led to his book 2012 for Twentysomethings: A Young Voter’s Guide to the 2012 Elections. Salvator hopes his book will help educate his peers about the issues facing the United States for the 2012 presidential and congressional elections and increase the number of thoughtful, educated, and influential young voters. His goal is not to create Democrat or Republican voters, but educated voters—voters that choose based on their beliefs and not because of their age, race, class, job, sexual orientation, or parents’ political affiliation. Salvator hopes this will be the first of many books aimed at educating, influencing, and challenging his peers.

“Though there are several factors impacting the future of oil price fluctuations … it all still goes back to the economics of supply and demand,” said Mark Stansberry, chairman of the GTD Group, an energy-management firm. The Seaway and Keystone pipelines are “both positive to reducing dependency on foreign oil” and the Seaway is important for WTI crude prices to come more in line with Brent.
